Are you thinking about buying garden edging but not sure which option to choose? Well-selected lawn edging can make a huge difference in your garden: it helps organize the space, separates the lawn from flower beds and paths, and keeps bark, soil, or gravel neatly in place. The effect is visible immediately – your garden looks cleaner and more polished.
What matters is that proper edging installation also makes mowing easier. The mower runs evenly along the edge, without the need for constant correction or trimming of the lawn edges.
Concrete or plastic? The most common dilemma
In practice, the choice usually comes down to two solutions: concrete edging or plastic edging (made of plastic).
Concrete edging – when durability matters
Concrete is a classic choice “for years.” It is heavy, very stable, and resistant to abrasion, which is why it works well:
- along alleys and driveways,
- in heavily used areas,
- wherever the edging may be exposed to impacts.
The advantage is a clearly defined, straight dividing line. The downsides? Installation is usually more demanding (it requires digging), and if you later change the garden layout, moving the elements can be troublesome.
Plastic edging – when you need flexibility

Plastic stands out for convenience and flexibility. It is a good choice if you want to create curved lines – around a flower bed, a tree, or along a wavy garden path. The main advantages are:
- lightweight and quick installation,
- easy shaping of curves and forms,
- resistance to moisture and frost,
- UV resistance (depending on the product),
- no corrosion or rotting.
In more heavily loaded areas (e.g. next to paving, at the edge of a driveway, or wherever pressure may occur), what really matters is how the edging is installed. Proper leveling and solid anchoring (e.g. with anchors / a fixing system) are crucial, as they are the main factors responsible for stability.
Other types of garden edging
Besides concrete and plastic, you may also come across:
- granite (very durable and elegant),
- wood (a natural look, but it requires maintenance),
- steel (a minimalist appearance and sharp lines),
- the so-called natural flower bed edge – an effective solution, but one that requires regular refreshing.
A practical solution: Stella Bord® edging
If you are looking for quick installation, an aesthetic finish, and durability, Stella Bord® garden edging by Stella Green can be a very good choice. Available options include the SB series (heights: 4.5 / 6 / 8 cm) as well as the flexible SE45 / SE60 variants, which work well for both straight lines and curves.
Installation is made easier by the system of anchors and connectors, and the edging itself is made from recycled plastic, free from heavy metals, weather-resistant, and maintenance-free.
